The Baby Room
At TLC, we understand the challenge of entrusting your infant's care to someone else. That's why we want to highlight that our baby unit staff are meticulously selected for their commitment to children's well-being. Each member of our baby room team holds childcare qualifications or is actively pursuing them, ensuring they are well-equipped to offer your baby the necessary care, support, and guidance for their growth and development. Rest assured, students are under close supervision at all times.
We provide three distinct rooms designed to closely cater to your child's daily routine. These rooms include designated spaces for sleeping, eating, changing, and our engaging baby sensory room. Our cosy and well-equipped environment is tailored for infants aged six weeks to two years. Our dedicated staff offer personalized care, adhere to each child's routine, and assist in reaching developmental milestones. Additionally, children enjoy activities such as outings and playtime.
Staff-to-child ratio is 1:3.
Our babies' day starts with drop-off in the morning, where they receive a warm greeting and a big cuddle. They can opt for breakfast or explore the room and play. Occasionally, we engage in morning activities. If the weather permits, we take a walk or visit the park, usually returning by 11 am for lunch. Babies are seated in high chairs or at the table, where Jean serves their lunches, followed by yogurt and fruit. After lunch, we tidy up and bring out the dream beds for nap time.
Upon waking, they play until snack time around 2 pm, where they sit at the table or in high chairs to enjoy their snack. More playtime follows, with occasional afternoon activities. The day concludes when they are picked up for home time.

The 2-3 Room
In the toddler age group, play focuses on physical activity with milestones like speech development. Activities aim to enhance physical awareness using educational aids and natural resources. Encouragement, self-care activities, messy play, and memory games promote skills development and fun. Creative play with hats, bags, and music fosters imagination and listening skills. We offer waterproof clothing to ensure that children can frequently explore nature in our well-equipped garden area.
Staff-to-child ratio is 1:5.
The day for our little ones kicks off with drop-off in the morning. They have the option to grab breakfast and enjoy some playtime. We usually squeeze in teeth brushing before moving on. There might be a morning activity or, weather permitting, we head out for a stroll to the park or play in the garden.
After a tidy-up session, we usually sing some songs before lunch. The 2-year-olds have lunch at 11:30 am. In the lunch hall, they can fetch their cups and utensils. Following lunch, it's nap time for those who nap; they have their own sleep mat and blanket. Non-nappers can continue playing. Some children leave around 1 pm for half-day sessions.
Snack time rolls around at 2 pm, where all the children gather at the table for a snack. They can then play again afterwards. In the afternoons, we sometimes head to the garden or the park, and often spend time in the conservatory playing until it's time for pick-up.

Preschool
In the pre-school department, we follow The Scottish Executive's "A Curriculum for Excellence". The curriculum aims to develop children as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors. TLC focuses on providing age-appropriate education, recognizing individual learning needs through staff training and adherence to national and local guidelines.
Emphasis is placed on learning through creativity, play, and interaction with the natural environment, fostering understanding and care for nature and cultural diversity.
TLC staff ensure a smooth transition to primary school by liaising with the chosen school, aiming for a positive experience from nursery to primary education.
Staff-to-child ratio is 1:8.
The day at the nursery begins with children arriving at different times – some at 8 am, some after 9 am, and some in the afternoon.
Children can prepare their own breakfast. A routine 'morning time' session involves reviewing our 'Golden Rules' such as "looking eyes, listening ears, quiet mouths, gentle hands, and walking feet," along with updating the date, weather, day of the week, and month on the board.
Activities in the morning may include crafts, garden time, or a park walk. After a tidy-up session, we might enjoy a story before heading to the lunch hall at 11:30 am. Children are encouraged to serve themselves, collect utensils, and choose their seats. They dish up their lunches, fruit, and yogurt before cleaning up their dishes. Post-lunch, we usually move to the conservatory.
At around 2 pm, we tidy up and wash our hands before snack time After snack, we then allow the children to resume playing. whether in the garden, or on a walk, or engaging in an afternoon activity.

The Conservatory
TLC Nursery boasts a magnificent and luminous conservatory that serves as the heart of our learning environment. This expansive space is designed to foster collaboration and interaction among children of all age groups, creating a dynamic atmosphere where young minds can flourish.
In the conservatory, our curriculum revolves around the captivating world of insects, nature, and sensory exploration. Through hands-on experiences and guided activities, children are immersed in the wonders of the natural world, igniting their curiosity and deepening their understanding of the environment. Nestled within the vibrant greenery of the conservatory is our cozy teepee, a beloved retreat for moments of relaxation and connection.
Here, children can snuggle up with a soft blanket and dive into a world of imagination through books or quiet reflection. The teepee provides a tranquil space for solitary reading or intimate gatherings, encouraging social interaction and nurturing a love for storytelling.
Whether it's cuddling up with a favorite stuffed animal or sharing adventures with friends, the teepee offers a haven for comfort and exploration. Within the bright and inviting confines of the conservatory, children are greeted with an array of toys and activities that spark joy and creativity.
From colorful building blocks to engaging sensory bins, every corner is alive with the hum of laughter and discovery. With ample space to roam and explore, our nursery encourages freedom of movement and expression, allowing children to engage with their surroundings in meaningful ways. At TLC Nursery, the conservatory serves as more than just a physical space—it's a vibrant ecosystem where learning, play, and connection intertwine to create unforgettable experiences for every child.

The Garden
Our children regularly enjoy the vast garden space we are fortunate to have. The garden offers numerous areas for play, discovery and adventure.
It includes a mud kitchen, a tree swing, slides, an obstacle course, and several Wendy houses. Additionally, there are bikes, scooters, and ride-along cars available. The garden is surrounded by large trees, creating a natural atmosphere for the children.
The garden truly is a magical place for our little ones. It's a haven for imagination and exploration, where they can embark on endless adventures and create lasting memories. The mud kitchen is always a hit, with little chefs whipping up muddy concoctions that are sure to delight. The obstacle course challenges their agility and keeps them active and engaged.
The Wendy houses are perfect for imaginative play, whether they're pretending it's a cosy home or a secret hideout. And when it's time for some wheels, the bikes, scooters, and ride-along cars are ready for action, allowing them to zip around the garden with glee. Surrounded by the protective embrace of the trees, the children are free to let their spirits soar in this garden wonderland.
With waterproof suits at the ready, all wrapped up so the good Scottish weather doesn’t stop us, our little adventurers are always prepared for whatever the weather brings. It warms our hearts to see how much joy and excitement the garden brings to them, and we love watching them grow. The children adore the garden, and many have learned to ride their bikes here.
